Investment & Market Entry

Investment & Market Entry Advisory in Tanzania

Dedicated legal support for foreign investors and international businesses entering the Tanzanian market: the right structure, the right partners and the incentives you are entitled to.

Overview

Enter the Tanzanian market with confidence

Tanzania offers investors a large and growing market, a strategic position in East Africa and opportunities across energy, mining, agriculture, infrastructure, manufacturing and services. Entering that market successfully depends on getting the legal foundations right: the vehicle you invest through, the approvals and licences you need, the partners you work with and the incentives available to you.

Nkola Attorneys acts as your legal partner on the ground in Dar es Salaam. We help foreign investors, multinational corporations and international organisations understand the regulatory landscape, choose an investment structure that suits their commercial and tax objectives, and complete registration with the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) and other authorities.

Because we also advise on corporate law, regulatory compliance and dispute resolution, we can support your investment from first enquiry through incorporation, licensing and ongoing operations, so you have a single point of contact who understands your business.

FAQs

Investment & Market Entry: frequently asked questions

Is TIC registration mandatory for foreign investors?

Registration with the Tanzania Investment Centre is not required for every business, but it is how investors access the incentives, facilitation services and guarantees available under Tanzania's investment law. Eligibility depends on factors such as the size of the investment and the sector. We advise whether registration makes sense for your project and handle the application.

Should I set up a subsidiary or a branch in Tanzania?

A subsidiary is a separate Tanzanian company, which limits the parent's liability and is often preferred by regulators and local partners. A branch is an extension of the foreign company and can be quicker for short-term projects but exposes the parent more directly. The right choice depends on your project, sector, tax position and how long you plan to operate. We explain the trade-offs for your situation.

Do I need a local partner to invest in Tanzania?

In many sectors foreign investors can own their business outright. In others, such as mining and petroleum services, local content rules encourage or require Tanzanian participation. Where a partner is needed or commercially useful, we help you structure and document the joint venture to protect your investment.

Can you support us before we arrive in Tanzania?

Yes. We regularly work with clients who are still abroad, providing advice, due diligence and document preparation remotely and coordinating with your home-country advisers, so your structure is ready when you are.

Which sectors do you advise investors in?

We focus on sectors that demand rigorous regulatory oversight, including energy, petroleum, mining, trade and general commerce, and we also advise on telecommunications regulation.
